The Southerner

This commissioned children's menu was designed for The Southerner, a restaurant located in Saugatuck, Michigan.

The client wanted something that kept the souther charm of the restaurant working off of the style and color of their logo at the top of the menu. She did mention that there is a duck that hung around the business that they names Pickles which she would like included in some way.

As far as kids menus go, I really wanted something that would feel interactive and fun. The only color I used was in the logo and the red dotted border. The rest I left uncolored so the mini patrons could let their creativity run wild.

I incorporated Pickles the Duck by making him the star of the design. Presenting the menu items and creating a maze where the guest could help him find his radio in the river. I also included some tick-tack-toe games to get the parents involved and playing games too.

As this design was being made, the Covid pandemic was in full swing and unfortunately this was never put into production. I am still very proud of the work I created here as it helped me stretch my design wings in a way that I had never done before.
